THE WORLD’S END
🍺 Pub Name: The World’s End
📍 Location: London Road, Brighton and Hove
🗓️ Date of Visit: 03/11/2024
🍻 In One Sip: One of the weirdest, whackiest and most wonderful pubs you’ll find in Sussex – let alone London Road.
🍺 Must-Try: Head upstairs and get yourself a Scalextric driver’s license. You’ll need it, trust us.
All you need to know about The World’s End
While its name may sound slightly alarming and apocalyptic, inside is anything but.
As soon as you enter and peer at the table football table glued to the wall and the arcade machines surrounding the bar, you’ll feel right at home – especially if you’re a local.
As you make your way through the pub, you’ll soon find yourself with a difficult choice: Where. To. Go. First.
Let’s break down the options:
Option 1: Head straight to the bar. With an incredible lineup of beers to choose from, I mean why wouldn't you?!
Option 2: Find a place to sit. It’s a spacious pub, after all, with window seats, comfy chairs, etc. Another tricky choice to make.
Option 3: Head upstairs. Oh, did we forget to mention that this place also has its own arcade games and escape room?
Whichever choice you make, it’ll be the right one. Us personally? We went for Option 2. But we’re old men now, so sitting down is important.
Food and drink at The World’s End
Which types of drinks is it good for? 🍺
As a Laine pub, The World’s End does lots of, well, Laine beers. From Mangolicious to Source to Fader to Sonar, if you like Brighton beer with fun one-word names, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
They also do the usual range of cocktails and vinos. Basically, all the good stuff.
Does it do food? 🍔
Yes, it does! While it’s not Vegan Noms anymore, they still do one of the best ranges of vegan food in Brighton.
There’s all the classic pub grub stuff too, like burgers, etc. But we still associate it with amazing vegan foods and, Vegan Noms or not, we will not hear otherwise.
Does it do roast dinners? 🍗
No, unfortunately not! The pub mainly focuses on its love of beer, events and games over food, but there are plenty of other good options around the area if you’re looking for a roast.
The Hare and Hounds located opposite does a good roast, for instance. Or, if you don’t mind a bit more of a mooch, you’ve got all the pubs around Preston Park as well.
Features and amenities at The Rook
Does it have a beer garden? ☀️
Yep! There’s a small beer garden out the back, with a view of Unbarred Brewery – another of our favourite Brighton establishments.
There are also a couple of picnic benches out the front if ya fancy people watching and getting a small taste of the glitz and glamour of London Road.
Is it dog friendly? 🐶
Yes, it is! However, if you plan on visiting the arcade room upstairs, you might have a few more difficulties,
We took our beloved goldendoodle up with us but had to ask a man to look after her while we played on the Scalextric track (or the World’s Raceway and Arcade, as it's known). You know, priorities and all.
Does it have any games or activities available? 🎲
When you get to The World’s End, you’ll soon realise how stupid a question this is.
The World’s End is the HOME of games and activities. Whether it be table football, a dance mat, or a giant Scalextric track, you’ll be left spoilt for choice. Oh, and did we mention it also has its own Murder Mystery escape room?
They also regularly run music events, including Bluesday Tuesday and weekend DJ sets, and film events – like their recent Halloween Movie Night.
Basically, if you like fun, go here.
Does it run a pub quiz? 🧐
Yes, it does! As arguably Brighton’s best pub for games, it only seems on brand for them to run a pub quiz too.
So, when is it? Every second Monday at 8pm, hosted by Suzy. They also used to run themed pub quizzes, like Doctor Who and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. So keep an eye on their Insta page for various updates.
Does it show live sport? ⚽
Not really. While they showed the Euros 2024 games, it’s not known for showing live sport.
You’d be better off walking a little while up the road to New Unity (another Laine pub), where they have more screens than they do beers.
How far a walk is it from the nearest train station? 🚂
It’s approximately an 11-minute walk away from Brighton train station. It’s 100% worth the effort though – we promise.
How would you describe The World’s End...?
...to a friend? 🗣️
The World’s End is a weird, whacky and wonderful pub on London Road.
As you walk in, you’re greeted by a giant Kraken on the front. Then it just gets even better as you wander in.
With its very own Scalextric track (did we mention that already?), arcade, escape room and variety of local beers, you’d be hard-pushed to find a more fun or eclectic pub in the South East. And believe us – we’ve looked.
...as a film? 🍿
