All you need to know about The Lion & Lobster

We’ve found a real gem tucked away in the heart of Hove—The Lion & Lobster. This place has a colourful history and bags of character to match.

Once known as The Rockingham, this multi-level pub is the perfect spot to lose yourself for a few hours (or days, we won’t judge).

Fairy lights are practically a religion here, and the quirky décor only adds to its charm.

It’s got three floors of nooks, crannies, and cosy corners, plus a cracking restaurant upstairs that’s perfect for when you need to refuel between pints.

Food and drink at The Lion & Lobster

Which types of drinks is it good for? 🍺

If you’re into craft beer, you’re in luck. The Lion & Lobster has a top-notch selection, including local brews from the likes of Only With Love Brewery and Unbarred.

Not a fan of fizz? No problem. They’ve also got a great range of flat ciders and cask ales that’ll hit the spot, as well as a full range of all the cocktails, spirits and soft drinks that you’d expect.

Does it do food? 🍔

Oh, absolutely.

And we’re not just talking about any old pub grub – this is some of the best food in Brighton.

Sure, it’s classic fare, but it’s done so well that you’ll be dreaming about that burger long after you’ve left. I know I still am.

The upstairs restaurant is a bit of a hidden treasure too, offering a more laid-back dining experience that’s perfect for those in the know.

Does it do roast dinners? 🍗

You bet. Sundays at The Lion & Lobster are all about indulgence, with roast dinners that come with all the trimmings.

Extra roasties? Pigs in blankets? Gravy for days? They’ve got you covered. Discover their Sunday menu here.

Features and amenities at The Lion & Lobster

Does it have a beer garden? ☀️

It does, and it’s a bit of a secret hideaway.

The mid-level rooftop terrace is where you want to be when the sun’s out, pint in hand, taking in the views over Hove. It’s the perfect escape from the crowds of Western Road.

Is it dog friendly? 🐶

Very much so. The Lion & Lobster is the kind of place where your furry friends will feel just as welcome as you do. It’s a laid-back, friendly spot for both humans and dogs alike.

Does it have any games or activities available? 🎲

Yes, there’s a dartboard if you fancy a bit of friendly competition and live music is a regular feature of their events calendar.

For something a bit more low-key, they’ve also got a stash of board games that’ll keep you entertained for a few hours. Although, if it’s board games you’re looking for, The Robin Hood up the road will more than tickle your fancy.

Does it run a pub quiz? 🧐

Yes, every Monday evening.

It’s a popular one too, so make sure to bring your brainy mates along with you. If you’re anything like us, you’re going to need them!

Does it show live sport? ⚽️

Absolutely. With screens dotted all over the place, including both upstairs and downstairs, you won’t miss a second of the action – even when you’re queuing at the bar getting another half-time round in.

How far a walk is it from the nearest train station? 🚂

It’s about a 19-minute walk from Brighton train station or a 33-minute walk from Hove train station.

However, it’s along Western Road – a hub for great pubs on the walk/crawl/stagger between the cities of Brighton and Hove.

How would you describe The Lion & Lobster…?

…to a friend? 🗣️

The Lion and Lobster is a quirky, multi-level pub with a cosy rooftop terrace and a super-friendly vibe.

The craft beer selection is spot-on, the food is fantastic, and the staff are always up for a chat. Whether you’re there for a quick pint or settling in for the night, you’ll feel right at home. The big question is: are you Team Lion or Team Lobster?

…as a film? 🍿

Poor Things – imagine a place where the décor feels like it’s been thrown together by a mad scientist but in the coolest possible way.
