All you need to know about The Caxton Arms

Nestled in the heart of Brighton & Hove, The Caxton Arms is a charming pub with a rich history dating back to the early 20th century.

After first opening its doors back in 1962, it was reconstructed in 1928 to support the local dairy community.

Fast-forwarding 96 years, the pub is now better known for its cosy atmosphere and welcoming vibe – a backstreet spot loved by locals and visitors alike.

Food and drink at The Caxton Arms

Which types of drinks is it good for? 🍺

Nothing in particular! It has a fairly standard selection of beer and drinks to be perfectly honest with you. However, they’re all well-kept and served by a team of very friendly bar staff.

Does it do food? 🍔

Yes, The Caxton Arms offers a delicious range of classic pub grub.

From hearty burgers and loaded fries to some of the best nachos in Brighton, they offer a little something for everyone, so can suit whatever your taste buds might fancy. You can take a look at their delicious menu here.

Our personal favourite? It’d have to be the currywurst hot dog or the loaded nachos. Absolutely delicious every time we’ve had them.

Does it do roast dinners? 🍗

Yes, it does. And they’re almost as delicious as the currywurst hot dog or loaded nachos.

Features and amenities at The Caxton Arms

Does it have a beer garden? ☀️

Yes, there’s a small one out the back that’s split across two layers. It’s also nicely decorated, always fairly busy and even has sections to protect you from the rain should you need to quickly change seats.

Is it dog friendly? 🐶

Yes, it’s incredibly dog friendly! In fact, I’d argue they prefer dogs to humans. They even have a board where they add photos of the canine regulars (although I’m still waiting for my dog to be added!)

Does it have any games or activities available? 🎲

The word yes doesn’t even do it justice! In a similar way to The Robin Hood, The Caxton Arms has a variety of games and activities including more than 50 board games, a bar billiards table, toad, live music and live comedy (normally when Brighton Fringe is on). A visit there will certainly keep you busy, that’s for sure.

Does it run a pub quiz? 🧐

Yes, every Thursday. They also normally do various themed pub quizzes from time to time, and in the past have done quizzes on things like The Simpsons, Doctor Who and Mean Girls!

Does it show live sport? ⚽️

Yes, it does. In fact, it’s a very Brighton FC-themed pub, so is a fantastic place to catch a game if you're a fan of the seagulls (the team, not the birds).

How far a walk is it from the nearest train station? 🚂

It’s approximately a 4-minute walk from Brighton train station. So you could run there without even breaking much of a sweat.

How would you describe The Caxton Arms…?

…to a friend? 🗣️

The Caxton Arms is a really friendly pub a stone’s throw away from Brighton train station.

While its beer selection isn’t exactly mind-blowing, it always has a ton of fun events on – from themed pub quizzes to live music and comedy nights.

It’s also a great spot to watch football games in and enjoy a board game or ten!

…as a film? 🍿

Hunt For The Wilderpeople – a hidden gem that’s much better than expected and always a ton of fun whenever we revisit!

The Caxton Arms is one of the best pubs in Brighton for board games. But if you’re keen to find out where else you can play a game or two, take a look at the pub locator on our home page to find your local favourites.
