🍻 In One Sip: A fantastic craft beer pub near Brighton train station.

All you need to know about The Evening Star
The Evening Star more than lives up to its name – an absolute star of a pub that’s well worth visiting in the evening. Or any time of the day really.
Located only a stone’s throw away from Brighton station, while the pub may look like a bit of a saloon bar from the outside, it’s got all the Brighton traits you could ask for inside.
We’re talking toads. We’re talking craft beer. We’re talking friendly locals. What more could you possibly need?!
Food and drink at The Evening Star
Which types of drinks is it good for? 🍺
The Evening Star has an unbelievable choice of craft beer, lager and cask ale, with more than 22 drinks on tap. Yes, that’s right. Twenty-two. Taylor Swift would love it.
With an ever-rotating selection of brewers from both near and far, there's always something new to try. When we visited, we enjoyed many a pint of Burning Sky’s Aurora and Siren’s Broken Dreams. Delicious stuff.
Does it do food? 🍔
No, unfortunately not. The Evening Star keeps it simple and sticks to what they know best: beer.
However, being so near the station, there are plenty of good food options around. The Pond, for example, is just down the road and is known for its range of incredible bao buns.
Does it do roast dinners? 🍗
Nope, I’m afraid no food means there are no roast dinners either. But who needs them when the beer selection is this good?!
Features and amenities at The Evening Star
Does it have a beer garden? ☀️
If you can call it that, then yes. The pub has a small area out the front with various picnic benches available – the ideal place to enjoy a pint among the hubbub of city centre life.
However, the vibe inside is where it’s at – in our humble opinion.
Is it dog friendly? 🐶
Yes! The Evening Star does allow dogs in. There might even be a couple of treats thrown in if you’re lucky…
Does it have any games or activities available? 🎲
If you’re a fan of flicking coins into a metal hole, then you’re in luck. The Evening Star has its very own toads table – a traditional pub game that actually originates up the road from Brighton, in the beautiful town of Lewes.
And talking of Lewes, we recently went there on a pub crawl. You can discover where we went on the blog we wrote all about it.
Does it run a pub quiz? 🧐
Nope, there’s no pub quiz at The Evening Star I’m afraid. This place is all about the beer.
However, if you’re looking for pub quizzes nearby, The Caxton Arms down the road often has themed ones available during the week.
Does it show live sport? ⚽
Nope, there’s no live sport here. The Evening Star is all about encouraging drunken conversation and delivering a fantastic range of beers.
How far a walk is it from the nearest train station? 🚂
The pub is only a two-minute walk from Brighton train station. As you wander down past Grand Central and The Railway Bell on your way towards the city centre, The Evening Star should soon appear on your left-hand side.
How would you describe The Evening Star...?
...to a friend? 🗣️
The Evening Star is an absolute craft beer haven with one of the best selections of real ales, lagers, IPAs and pale ales you’ll find anywhere in Sussex. Maybe even the world.
With multiple options available from brewers all across the UK, if you love trying new beers and being near a train station, this is the ideal pub for you.
...as a film? 🍿
Pinocchio – while it doesn’t look like much from the outside, we’d be lying if we said it was anything other than a fantastic pub!
